Tidal Breath is a free breathing app for iPhone and Apple Watch. It was built to be private from the start: there is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. This page explains, in plain terms, what that means for the app and for this website.
The Short Version
- The app does not collect any personal data. We never see your sessions, your patterns or how you use the app.
- Everything the app records stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and in Apple Health only if you allow it.
- There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no sign-in and no third-party code that sends data anywhere.
- This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies, and its fonts are served from this site.
The App
What Is Stored on Your Device
To work, the app keeps the following on your device: a history of the sessions you complete (the technique, when it started, how long it ran, how many breaths and, if you allow it, your heart rate at the start and end), any breathing patterns you build yourself, your Find Your Pace results, which safety notes you have read, and your settings, such as cues and haptic strength. None of this is sent to us. Deleting the app deletes it.
Apple Watch
Sessions you complete on your Apple Watch are passed directly to your paired iPhone so that your History shows both. This happens between your own devices, using Apple’s built-in connection between iPhone and Watch, and nothing is sent to us.
Apple Health
Apple Health is off until you allow it. If you do, the app can add each session to Health as Mindful Minutes, and can read your heart rate during a session to show how it changed from the start to the end. Heart rate readings are used only inside the app and kept with your session history on your device. The app never sends Health data to us or anywhere else. Saying no leaves every part of the app working, and you can change your choice at any time in the iPhone Settings app, under Health, then Data Access and Devices.
Sounds, Voices and Notifications
The breathing cues and spoken voices are recorded files built into the app, so nothing is downloaded or streamed while you breathe. The app does not use the microphone. It sends no notifications unless you ask it to, and any reminders are scheduled on your iPhone itself; no server is involved.
No Analytics, No Tracking
The app contains no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising software, and it does not track you across other apps or websites. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”. If you have chosen to share analytics with Apple in your iPhone settings, Apple may give developers anonymous, aggregated crash and usage statistics; this is controlled by you and Apple, not by the app.
This Website
tidalbreath.app is a simple website. It has no sign-up, no comments, no contact form, no analytics and no advertising. Its fonts are served from this site, not from Google or any other third party. The breathing demo on the home page runs entirely in your browser and records nothing.
Like almost every website, our web server keeps short-lived technical logs of the requests it receives, which include your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type. We use these only to keep the site running and secure, for example to block automated attacks, and they are deleted automatically after 14 days. Our security software, Wordfence, may set a cookie that is strictly necessary to protect the site, and may share the IP addresses of suspected attackers with its provider, Defiant, to help block attacks. Neither is used to track you.
Where the website links to other sites, such as the App Store or the research we cite, those sites have their own privacy policies.
Children
Because the app collects no personal data from anyone, it collects none from children either.
Your Rights
Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal data, including the right to ask what we hold and to have it deleted. As the app holds nothing about you on our side, the only personal data we could hold is in the website’s security logs, or in any email you send us. You can ask about either using the contact details below, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you are unhappy with how we have handled your data.
Changes to This Policy
If a future version of the app changes how it handles data, we will update this page before that version is released and change the date at the top.
